National Organizations

National Honor Society

Sponsors: Martie Blanton and Cynthia Crowder

The National Honor Society recognizes those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character, and then helps to cultivate those skills by creating enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulating a desire to render service, promoting leadership, and developing character in our members. NHS is both an honor and a commitment. Our members are required to do at least 28 hours of service for the school and community throughout each year. During the last few years, our NHS members have sponsored several service projects to raise money and collect items for Dorchester Paws, The Lowcountry Pregnancy Center, Walk for Water, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as well as serving at Northwood by tutoring, helping out at the elementary Christmas program, and cleaning up after football games. To be invited to apply for membership, students must have taken a combination of two honors or AP classes and have a cumulative 4.0 or higher at the end of the third quarter of their sophomore or junior year.

Junior Beta Club
7th-8th Grade

Sponsor: Becky Gentry

The National Junior Beta Club at Northwood Academy is a service club for students in 7th and 8th grades who have earned an average of 89.5 or higher the previous school year and who have shown good character. Beta Club encourages students to serve their school, churches, and neighborhoods by volunteering in a variety of ways. In 2021-2022, Junior Betas volunteered over 400 hours of their time. They also collect, organize, and sell used uniforms each year, which is a blessing to so many of our Northwood families.  One of the goals of Beta Club is to teach students to be leaders by serving others.
